WEEK 10:

Hours: 2 sermon prep, 3.5 youth group, 1 worship team, 1 Sun. School, 1 morning worship, 1 evening service, 2 meetings, 2 retreat preparation/paperwork, 3.5 cleaning the church/decorating with youth

Total Hours: 17

Wed. night I had a wake-up call--I hadn't noticed Sun. that my mentee was avoiding eye contact with me because she had cut. When she showed me her wrists Wed. night I wanted to kick myself that I hadn't noticed the signs. It's a long, hard process for her...

The service was great though. We fit 29 people in the youth room! (I'm pretty sure that was record attendance for the youth group since I've been on staff!) The message was much lighter than last week, but it went well and seemed to get through.

Only three youth and one leader showed to clean the church on Sat., but it went well. They worked hard and had fun. I think the church was cleaner afterward than it had been in a LONG time. After we were done, we hung some posters and decorations in the youth room.

Sunday School was great this week! My kids were awake and asking questions... I love the atmosphere that the new room brings. They were NEVER that talkative and inquisitive before in Sunday School.

I've started preparation for our spring weekend retreat--The Crucible. The tag line is "Intensity. Challenge. Truth. Can you handle the heat?" The prep-work is coming along well, and people are already excited about it. I have posters made up, the t-shirt order will be put in this week...things are coming together. I've also started pushing summer youth camp. Our registration is due the beginning of May. I had a meeting with our worship pastor who will be directing jr. high camp this summer to help him plan activities and games. I'm probably going to be writing the family-team devotional curriculum for the camp as well. My summer plans are starting to come to fruition, and I am confident that I will be in Marion for the summer. That's a relief!

I've been doing better about keeping my life balanced lately. :) WOOT! I'm very excited at the lessons God has been teaching me lately. I had the chance to talk them through with someone this weekend, and since then I've been able to see more clearly what God has been doing in my life through this year. I am so thankful for His patience with me.

I suppose this is the last "required" entry for this practicum. I can honestly say that the blogging experience has been a positive one. I think I have learned and processed more on my own by being able to vent and contemplate via this online journal. I may continue to update throughout the summer, although from now until the end of finals I doubt I'll have a chance. If you're one of my supporters from home getting on to see what's going on in my life, keep me in your prayers the next couple weeks as I try to finish "eating the elephant one bite at a time." Hopefully after graduation weekend I'll be able to come home for a few days. God is good... and there's no better way to live than in the center of His will. Good bye for now!
